Great Smoky Mountain National Park River Death – A 32-year-old man identified as Bulmaro Morales of Dudley was pronounced dead on Saturday after saving a child in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park river.

According to the park rangers, around 5:30pm they responded to a drowning on the Oconaluftee River in Cherokee.

It was witnessed that Morales jumped into the river to rescue the child who was later found safe on shore when rangers arrived, but Morales did not surface.

The park rangers along with bystanders searched for Morales who was later found exactly 10 feet deep waters and unresponsive.

Efforts to save Morales proved futile.
