Western Australian combat sport lost a good fella today.
RIP Alan Pond. This bloke fought anyone, anytime. No matter what the discipline.
Sparred this Trojan back when I had a few kickboxing fights, then when I started boxing.
Saw him last Friday night at @dragonfire_boxing and had a few laughs about the old days.
A loss to the community. Had a reaction to a cortisone shot the poor bugger. Goodness knows he needed it after the hell he put his body through the hard nut.
Bloody sad , rest easy old mate .
Thanku to W.a.’s own The Rock Daniel Dawson for the pic.

Let me tell you a story about an incredible bloke, Alan Pond known to his mates as Pondie, to me as Mr. Pond
Alan grew up tough – in Midland way, hard – had to work, penny by penny to build his dream. From a young whippet ~ 12 year old . Doing any job he could. More often involved hard painful work and his blood spilled. I don’t meet many hard people like Alan, he is singular in determination for sure.

He dared dream, as a young man to have a club of his own to share his true and probably only passion in life – Martial Arts – to the locals in working class areas of Midland and Koongamia.

Alan , was never shy to ask . His head was toughened by blows – his body conditioned. He ran with the kids, warmed with the kids up to his 60s . Fit healthy like an Ox and always coy about his age .

Eventually after all that hard graft and work , he built a Fight Night space in Midland and promoted fights in the area in December times and became a Mecca for junior Novice fights.

At the age of 45 Alan decided to go Pro or have another crack at ring fighting – typical Alan, trained hard and travelled wide to get his fights. Sheer determination .

Alan, being Alan, saved ,literally dollar by dollar to amass a deposit to buy a house to build a gym. He did and his entire life savings got stolen by theives. A knockout blow for anyone – but not Pondie. If you were on facebook at the time the blood curdling posts he put out seeking revenge – but he got his money – not sure if it was through collection or just community support and more hard work.

He built the dojo. Pondie being Pondie , I mean literally fought with every councilman , neighbour and detractor to have his Gym erected by his house.

But there’s more , Alan being Alan built by hand , the entire place, bolted scaffolded, cemented, bolted, welded the whole place together – a massive 2 story structure by his house. I mean he drove around Perth collecting donations of timber, steel , cement and built his place.

A gym by his house , for the Art he loved in the Community he adored.

Alan was a significant contributor to many fights and safe to say respected by all or most. A referee in just about all fight nights in Perth for over 15 years – a fighter could always rely on his confident , assertive refereeing to keep fighters safe.

Alan was a big part of the Kickboxing , boxing and Muay thai field.

Alan passed away, unexpectedly ( seriously ! ) today through medical complications.

Pondie will be missed for his contribution to our community .

If a guy like Pondie can take a hit – life is indeed fragile, fleeting and meant to be enjoyed now.

Today is today, Yesterday is past , Tomorrow will be. You only have today.

We are poorer for Alan’s passing .

RIP Alan Pond

The gates of valhalla open up for another.
Someone very close to my heart & many others has gone.
We are devastated, but Alan Pond would have wanted us to stay strong & be our best.
Remind us that this ride is short, make the most of it.
May he party on
