“Devastating news!! My colleague Kamilah Aisha Moon at Agnes Scott College, and an amazing, powerful poet, passed away last night. Just heard the news and sm heartbroken. Rest in peace, dear friend and cherished colleague. This parting will weigh heavy on my heart for the rest of my days. “As if this week couldn’t get worse, twitter is saying Kamilah Aisha Moon has died? Is this true? She was an old friend of mine. We read together at the Massachusetts Poetry Festival and she was great in helping and giving feedback on my autism project, and generously gave poems for the anthology Alongside We Travel. I met Kamilah way back in 2002 when a small group of us writers that included Jeff Parker and Tayari Jones, romped around New Orleans till dawn together. It was the kind of night that keeps you going for decades. Kamilah wrote so beautifully about her autistic sister. She was one of the finest lyric poets writing today. I can’t believe she is gone. Is this really true? She was just out and giving a reading last week. She was just tweeting the other day.” Sean Thomas Dougherty in a Facebook publication.
