Dominic Hunder Death – Obituary : 19-year old boy found dead at Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.
On Saturday, June 19, Dominic Hunder was said to have gone missing. The announcement of his sudden disappearance was made by Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. Few hours later, Hunder’s body was found and recovered. He was drowned to death.
According to report, Hunder and his friends visited the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area and they were swimming near Barry’s Landing on the Montana side of the N.P.S. site. However, Hunder became weak and slipped underneath the water.
Reports say the incident of fatigue and slipping underneath water happened around 4:00 p.m. A 911 call was made to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 4:25 p.m.
Rescue team arrived the scene and vessels, underwater cameras, divers and more were deployed for the search of Hunder. There was a joint effort by Lovell Fire Department, Ambulance, Big Horn County Sheriff Department, and Big Horn County Search.
At first, the body of Hunder was not found and the search was suspended at 1 a.m. Saturday due to low visibility. The search however, resumed later with an involvement of the U.S. Water Rescue Dive Team from Billings, Montana.
Around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, Hunder’s was found deceased. U.S. Water Rescue Divers recovered his body, assisted by N.P.S. rangers, Carbon County (MT) Sheriff, and Big Horn County (WY) Sheriff’s deputies.
