Herman Boone Death: American Coach Passed Away

Herman Ike Boone died December 18, 2019 at his residence in Alexandria, Virginia, United States. The American Coach passed away from lung cancer at the age of 84.

Boone attended Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Rocky Mount. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science degree from North Carolina Central University.

He started his coaching and teaching career at the Luther H. Foster High School in Blackstone, where he coached football, basketball and baseball Virginia in 1958.

In 1961 he returned to his home state of North Carolina, where he accepted a coaching position at the E.J. Hayes High School in Williamston, North Carolina, his teams won 99 and losses 8 games in a 9 year period. The Scholastic Coach’s Magazine recognized His 1966 football team and described it as “The Number One Football Team in America”.

He was fired in 1979 and later retired from his coaching career. In 2016, he was awarded the Living Legends of Alexandria award for notable citizens of Alexandria, VA.
