Joel Jijo Missing – Houston Man Disappears While Swimming In Canyon Lake

22-year-old Houston man identified as Joel Jijo has been declared missing after search for him was said to be unsuccessful on Sunday.

Jijo was reportedly swimming in Canyon Lake without lifejacket when he disappeared. Recovery crews searched for him but couldn’t find him. The search for Jijo on Sunday didn’t yield any result but the crew resumed the search Monday morning.

Jennifer Smith, Comal County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, said Jijo disappeared just before 10 a.m. on Saturday. She said the next of kin had been notified.

For the second straight day, Canyon Lake Fire and EMS and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rescue boats patrolled the 40-feet deep waters between Boat Ramps No. 5 and No. 6 looking for Jijo, one of two people reported missing from a pontoon boat around 9:55 a.m. Saturday.

“We have an approximate location of where he went down but were unable to locate him with sonar,” said Samuel Padgett, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden, who manned one of TPWDs search boats throughout the day Sunday. “We’ll continue the search at daybreak on Monday and keep searching until we find him.”
