Ram Dass Death | Obituary: Spiritual Leader Ram Dass Dead

Richard Alpert, popularly known as Ram Dass has died. He reportedly passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the age of 88.

Ram Dass was renowned as the nation’s preeminent spiritual leader. The name Ram Dass means “Servant of God” in Hindu. In 1967, Ram met with Mahara-ji while in Eastern India and that was when he was given the name.

Meeting Mahara-Ji, was very impactful and a life changing experience, and Dass was inspired to author of the book, Be Here Now, which has sold over 2 million copies.

Initially, Dass was a Harvard professor before his meeting with Maharaj-ji. Dass team up with Ralph Metzner, Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, and Aldous Huxley, they collaboratively researched psilocybin, LSD-25, and other psychedelic drugs.

Their collective studies produced two books, The Psychedelic Experience, which was co-authored with Leary and Metzner, and LSD , with Sidney Cohen and Lawrence Schiller.
