Samuel Backmon was shot in the head and leg outside an NYCHA apartment building on Hoe Ave. near E. 172nd St. in Crotona Park East about 4 a.m. July 5, 2019,
According to a report from Bronx News 12 at the time, Backmon was discovered bleeding on the sidewalk by a passerby after a late-night July 4 barbecue and fireworks. Blackmon, who lived just up the block from where he was shot, was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition. He held on for more than a year before dying Monday, August 10, 2020. Samuel was known to be an amazing person he will be greatly missed.
