Valentin “Val” Martinez, 45, who worked as a patrol officer in the Mission division area of the San Fernando Valley, is the LAPD’s first sworn officer to die after contracting the virus, but the second employee to succumb to the deadly respiratory illness.
He was a father-to-be of twins, and an officer with the Los Angeles Police department (LAPD). As of Wednesday, 437 employees of the department had tested positive for the virus. We issue our condolences.
